Scholarships That Empower Student Potential

The Headed North Scholarship Fund supports K–8 students in the Shawnee Mission North attendance area by helping cover activity fees and uniform costs for extracurricular programs. Whether it's sports, music, art, or leadership clubs, our goal is to make sure financial barriers don't stand in the way of students pursuing their passions. If your child qualifies for free or reduced lunch, you may be eligible to receive up to 75% support toward program participation costs.

Program Guidelines

Headed North Scholarship Fund believes that no child should be prevented from participating in after-school activities because of financial need. Students must live in or attend a school within the Shawnee Mission North attendance area to qualify.

General Information

  • Headed North Fund provides monetary support for students participating in after-school activities.
  • Boys and girls in grades K–12 who reside in or attend a school within the Shawnee Mission North High School boundaries and who cannot pay the full cost of registration fees may apply for limited financial assistance.
  • Assistance is based on availability of funds and financial need. Financial need is determined using current USDA free/reduced lunch guidelines.
  • Scholarships may cover a percentage of the cost based on need but are not intended to cover the full fee. Families are expected to pay a portion. Scholarships typically cover up to 75% of the activity cost.
  • Scholarships are generally not granted when the sponsoring organization already offers financial assistance or for premier/tournament teams or camps.
  • Students are generally limited to three scholarships per year.
  • Shawnee Mission North High School students may not receive scholarship funds for school-sponsored activities due to Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) regulations.
  • Scholarships are not transferable, refundable, and have no cash value.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in a school within the SM North attendance area and/or reside within its boundaries.
  • Incomplete applications, those without signatures, or those from individuals outside the boundaries will not be considered.
  • The Headed North Scholarship Fund does not discriminate based on race, sex, creed, color, national origin, age, sexual orientation, or physical ability.
